Meeting Minutes August 19, 2017
EAA Chapter 1167
Treasurer Report: Checking $ |
Old Business:
Planning for Oct 28th Fly in and Young Eagles:
Doug led discussion on EAA’s Youth Protection policy for Young Eagle flights. We watched the EAA video on changes to the Young Eagle ground rules relating to youth.
The video had 3 key points:
1. The same paperwork will still be used. (form where parent signs approval, and pilot certifies that he meets the YE flight criteria (insurance, currency to fly passengers, medical ok, and EAA YPT done on line and cleared).
2. Background checks may be done without SSAN, but even if given the SSAN is deleted from all EAA digital records after the criminal record check is done.
3. Supervision requirements are still for at least two adults with EAA YPT approval working on the ground for Young Eagle program.
Doug suggested that all chapter members go on line to EAA and take the Youth Protection training so we are all familiar with the rules and we always have enough trained people for our events.
The video clarified that the YP program applies to chapter activities planned/presented for youth as opposed to a regular chapter meeting where a youth might attend.
Discussion of Oct 28 Fly in.
Need to know pilots planning to attend ahead of time where possible.
Hank is planning to come 28 Sep in his Breezy. No other confirmed pilots yet.
Discussion of desire to offer more flights, but that depends on pilots and aircraft.
We could easily get more youth than we could fly.
New Business:
Discussion of possible increase in frequency of YE flights to quarterly. A Feb date was discussed, with some concern for the weather.
Possible scout campout during fly-in in grass area between the T hangars and main hangars.
Possible scout sponsored plane wash or food cooking opportunity for them to raise money.
Main Discussion / Tech Talk:
Larry Howell presented and explained several metal construction projects he had used at Oshkosh to help young people learn basic metal skills.
